Event Description:
The discovery of CRISPR/Cas9 opened a new era of gene editing for research and therapeutic use. Gene editing tools including zinc finger nucleases, Cas9, Cas12a, and base editors have shown their potential to enable new approaches in curing genetic and non-genetic disorders. In my presentation, I will introduce recent approaches in gene therapy and gene editing and new innovations in the field of non-viral vector gene delivery. The use of non-viral delivery of CRISPR ribonucleoproteins (RNPs) using polymer nanoparticles in Duchenne muscular dystrophy and Fragile X syndrome mouse models will be presented. I will also discuss the challenges of translating broader gene therapy into the clinic and new approaches to overcome the challenges. Lastly, I will share my thoughts on the changes in the startup ecosystem and my story of founding a new startup company in the Bay Area.
