Lasers? (not those from “Star Wars”) What? Why and How?

Event Description:
Lasers have become a common light source, used for spectroscopy, fluorescence, illumination and more. In order to choose the proper laser, it is important to understand the available options and the parameters that would affect the performance of your product. In this talk, I will review the basic principles of operations of lasers and the available commercial lasers. I will describe the differences between VCSELs and edge-emitting laser diodes as well as when you should opt not to use a laser.
