Dr. Dasher has been Director of the US-Asia Technology Management Center and Adjunct Faculty at Stanford University since 1994. From 1998 – 2015, Dr. Dasher concurrently served as Executive Director of Stanford’s industry-funded Center for Integrated Systems (CIS). His research includes regional and national innovation systems, open innovation management, and the impact of new technologies on industry value chains. Outside Stanford, Dr. Dasher serves on the Program Committee of Japan’s World Premier International Research Center (WPI) initiative and on the International Advisory Committee of the Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR). He is a senior advisor to the Mitsubishi Research Institute, and he is on the editorial board of the Journal of Cyber Policy (published by Chatham House). Dr. Dasher serves as advisor to start-up companies, business accelerators, and venture capital firms in Silicon Valley, Canada, India, Japan, S. Korea, and SE Asia. He is a board director of the World Sustainable Development Forum, the Japan Society of Northern California, and Keizai Silicon Valley. Previously, Dr. Dasher served as an outside Board Director and member of the Management Council of Tohoku University from 2004 – 2010. He developed international business as a board director of two small Japanese firms in Tokyo from 1990 – 93. From 1986 – 90, he directed the U.S. State Department’s Advanced Language and Area Training Centers in Japan and Korea that provide full-time curricula to U.S. and Commonwealth country diplomats assigned to those countries. He earned M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Linguistics from Stanford University with a Ph.D. minor in Japanese language. His undergraduate degree is the Bachelor of Music with majors in Clarinet and Orchestral Conducting from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and he maintains an active love for music.
