Event Topic:
Surgical Instruments that Harm Everyone in the OR: How Do We Make Surgeries Safer?

Event Description:
Electrosurgical devices are ubiquitous in the surgical arena today. They are used in approximately 90% of the surgical procedures performed. The perplexing thing is that agencies such as the CDC recognize that these devices are harmful to not only to the patients but also to the operating room staff. Yet surgeons continue to use these technologies that were developed in the early 1990. The manufactures have made modifications to these devices over the last three decades. But their solution to address the harmful aspect of these devices is to sell the hospital systems another device to try to mitigate the problem. I founded Novuson to make surgeries safer and more effective.
