Event Topic:
How to Accelerate Cures and Patient Outcomes Using RNA
Event Description:
Personalized medicine relying on single biomarkers has been practiced for four decades, resulting in drug approvals with response rates of 20%-70% in cancers. Biomarkers that guide treatment decisions have been adopted in all indications, such as cancer, autoimmune, cardiovascular, and infectious diseases. However, less than 1/3 of all clinical programs use a biomarker, adding significant risk and cost to the study. Using just one biomarker can potentially reduce the cost of a study by up to $1B by reducing the trial size and timeline, thus de-risking the project. In addition, analyzing all RNAs enables truly individualized treatment. RNA-based algorithms have been implemented into the standard of care in cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and other diseases. However, RNA is much harder to analyze because the assay must be quantitative, and RNA is unstable in real clinical samples. Identifying and quantifying all RNAs enables the biomarker to become an algorithm while the assay remains the same, accelerating adoption.
