Event Description:
This presentation will address key business issues faced by new ventures. What are the characteristics of an inventor, an entrepreneur, and a CEO? How investors evaluate new ideas, from concept to market? What are the skills and tools required for starting a new venture? Do you understand the vocabulary of the investor, and the management team? How to drive the commercializing of your product? How can you create a story that will interest investors? We will use my company, Melanoma Diagnostic, as the example of the patented technology, product validation, and its successful exit.

Dr. Scanlon’s career spans roles in academic medicine, senior management in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry, an author of The Hybrid Entrepreneur and investment advisor. He was the Chairman Emeritus of Pasadena Angels, TCA Venture Group). and CEO of 4 biotechnology companies, including Melanoma Diagnostics, which was sold to Myriad Genetics. At Schering/Berlex/Bayer, he was responsible for the genomic & cancer programs in the US, Europe & Asia. Dr. Scanlon’s academic achievements include Leukemia Society Scholar, P. Martini Cancer Prize (Germany), Co-Founder of the Nature Journal “Cancer Gene Therapy”, President of the International Society of Cell & Gene Therapy, co-authored 139 peer-reviewed scientific articles & 9 medical books.
