Currently, the supply chain issues are the rage of discussions among the US manufacturers. It is imperative to understand the overall manufacturing strategy of manufacturing facilities, logistics, and entire infrastructure. Manufacturers are always grappling with insourcing vs. outsourcing, which is to manufacture products in house or outsource. However, in the modern times, the scope of manufacturing has extended beyond internal strategies, it has assumed the scope to involve global supply chain strategies. While the medical device manufacturers develop their manufacturing strategies, the core competence required to develop specific expertise within the companies may not be viable due to the required capabilities and skills may be inherently expensive and be within the capabilities of the companies. In the current environment, there are raging issues as some of the skills required do not exist in the countries and financially may not be viable. Medical Device industries are directly affected as learnt from the Gloves and Masks manufacturing during the COVID pandemic and the current supply chain issues directly affect electronics manufacturing due to chip shortages.

He has been involved in developing a vast array of products, from 'head to toe' with innovative phacoemulsification equipment, Intraocular lenses, combination drug delivery products, ultrasound gel less solution and single use endoscopes. He led operations for Baxter Healthcare, Allergan, Kimberley Clark, and MicroAire Surgical spanning over 30 years. He has launched three startup companies with expert and innovative clinicians.
