Event Description:
We are at a point where we can think not just about holding disease at bay, but of reversing it; restoring vision to people who are blind, helping stroke victims regain use of their arms and legs and restoring speech, curing previously incurable disease. It sounds like science fiction, but thanks to the people of California the state’s stem cell agency is helping make it science fact. This talk will explore how stem cell research is helping change the face of medicine as we know it.

CIRM, the state’s stem cell agency, was created by voters when they approved Proposition 71 in 2004 and refunded in 2020 with $5.5 billion to fund stem cell research in California. Kevin is here to tell us what they are doing with the money and how it’s helped make California the global center of this research.
