Title: In Pursuit of Perfect Colonoscopy
Speaker: Salmaan Hameed
VP of R&D and Product Development, Avantis Medical Systems

Colonoscopy is recognized as the gold standard for colorectal cancer detection, however, there are limitations to the procedure including an average polyp miss rate of 21-24%. The company has developed a platform technology utilizing advanced optics, imaging, and software analysis for the screening and early detection of cancer, with colorectal cancer as its first clinical application. A recent study with 33 patients at Weill Cornell New York-Presbyterian/Queens Hospital showed much improved adenoma detection rates. System concept and clinical results will be presented.

Salmaan Hameed is currently the vice president of R&D and product development at Avantis Medical Systems. Previously, he held several management positions in medical device industry including Stryker, Pivot Medical (Stryker), and Chest Innovations. Salmaan has over twenty-one patents and over 20 years of experience as a serial entrepreneur.

An optional, no-host dinner with the speaker precedes each meeting, and you are invited. We gather in the Stanford Hospital cafeteria at 6:15 pm. No reservation is needed.
