BLENDING NATURE AND SCIENCE--MINING EASTERN HEALING KNOWLEDGE BASE TO DEVELOP SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS TO CHALLENGING CHRONIC HEALTH PROBLEMS IN THE WEST
— A Case Study of the WinVivo Healing Balm for Wounds and Dermatological Disorders

Pharmaceutical industry in the West is going through a major drying of product pipeline; and substantial policy and economic pressures on ballooning healthcare costs are pushing for lower-cost, more effective solutions to large population chronic health problems.

Emerging from this background is Silicon Valley’s WinVivo who looks to the East to find more cost-effective, sustainable solutions to the grim healthcare problems. Leveraging its core competence of expertise in biomedical and natural product development WinVivo has rapidly developed and marketed a series of highly effective natural health products within a year of its establishment. By building a affiliate network of trained health and wellness practitioners and influential green community leaders online and offline, WinVivo is now able to reach out to a broad base of consumers and patients who have been searching for more effective alternative or complementary solutions to their chronic problems.

Using the WinVivo Healing Balm as a case study, Dr. Shirley Chen will discuss how a simple jar of botanical ointment can replace a garden variety of (expensive) wound care reagents and devices to heal large-area, infected, acute as well as chronic wounds such as diabetic ulcers, arterial and venous stasis ulcers and bedsores. Interestingly, this product has also been found to be highly effective for suppressing itch and skin inflammation such as eczema, contact dermatitis (poison oak), hives, Herpes zoster, and cold sores. Coupled with the topical products to address symptoms on the skin, synergistic botanical combinations in oral formulations have been developed by WinVivo to systemically deliver immune-regulating and broad-spectrum anti-microbial constituents to address the root causes of the skin problems.
